An increase of 44,364 tons in the cargo handled at Lyttelton for the financial year up to the end of September was reported to the Lyttelton Harbour Board by the general manager (Mr A. J. Sowden) yesterday. The 1,664,199 tons were a record Mr Sowden said. Imports were down 17,918 tons to 1,152.869, but exports increased from 449,048 tons to 511.330.

Before appropriations the board had $397,217 for transfer from the revenue account and this was also a record for a financial year, Mr E. Brophy, the chairman of the finance committee, said.
