Phosphate In Bulk
The British Phosphate Commission now preferred to hold bulk fertiliser cargo in an open storage area at Cashin Quay rather than in a covered shed, Mr L. G. Amos, the chairman, reported to the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday. The commission intended that trucks carrying the cargo would run up a ramp and dump the cargo through grills on to the storage area. Zoning of the land was being discussed with the Lyttelton Borough Council. The bulk phosphate could mean a big increase in the port’s trade, he said. “I hope there won’t “be any hitches over zoning that will hold this back,” Sir George Manning said.
