More For Vicars

Minimum stipend increase* ranging from $55 to $B5 a year for vicars, curates,

deaconesses and women workers, were approved at the annual meeting of the Synod of the Diocese of Christchurch yesterday. All discussion on the bill, which, will take effect on November 1, 1967, was held in committee.

“These increases are intended to compensate for the increased cost of living for the 12 months up to March 31, 1967, and tn help clergy to meet their considerably increased contributions to the new superannuation fund,” said Mr A. F. Stott, in moving the bill. Individual parishes might make the increase earlier than November 1 if they wished.

Vicars will receive an increase of $B5 a year, from $2030 a year to $2115. Rates for assistant curates range from $6O-$B5 a year more, up to $2115 a year for sixth-year assistant curates. Stipends for deaconesses range from $6O-$65 a year more, up to $1665 a year for fourth-year deaconesses. For women workers, increases range from 555-565 a year, up to $1665 a year for sixthyear stipendiaries.
