Canoe Club To Compete

Th Arawa Canoe Club, of Christchurch, will compete in the 10-mile race down the Clutha river, to be held in conjunction with the Alexandra blossom festival on Sunday. Seven members of the club will compete as solo canoeists, while M. Lord, a former New Zealand surf ski champion, and A. Lavender, an Avon boat race pairs winner, will compete in a double canoe. Heading the Arawa challenge will be R. Page, a winner in all three Avon races. He will paddle a sleek Olympic KI craft M. Yorston and , M. Coulter will be competing in home-built "specials,” and P. Jones will be in an Eskimo kayak which was used with success in the first Avon race. Mr J. Nicholls and his two sons will compete as solo en-» tries, in fibreglass canoes.
