“The Freer" Special Service HASTINGS. Vigour and Damar pleased In their semi-final trials at Hastings yesterday for the Newman Handicap at Wanganui on Saturday. The plough and the No .1 grass, which were , used for the fast work, were in first-class order. On the plough, Nulhau (B. W. Beattie) worked over six furlongs In Imin 18 4-ssec, the last three furlongs in 40sec. Noir Fllou was given two rounds of steady pace work. He won his two latest races, and is one of the favourites for the Putlki Hack Handicap on Saturday. Floodlit (A. T. Jones), Bluffing (J. T. Anderson) and Cuabla (K. Cullen) took 43 3-seec for an easy three furlongs. Floodlit, which has been gelded, will race at the Hawke's Bay spring meeting. Tudor Lad and Lucky Rebel were given easy work, speeding up In a run along the straight. Lucky Rebel ts making good progress for trainer C. J. Cameron.

Damar (T .Whittington) and Vigour (J. T. Anderson) ran once round In Imin 43sec, the last six In Imin lOsec, and the last three in 41 3-ssec. Vigour was doing ths better of the two; He Is at peak fitness for the Newman Handicap.

Escort (L. D. Lawson) and Holy Smoke (K. Cullen) work sent six furlongs tn Imin 21 2-Ssec, the last three In 38 4-ssec.

Last Word (G. Phillips) and Ima Martian (A. T. Jones) were sent twice round at half pace, speeding up for the last furlong and a halt each time. Redalre (J. T. Anderson) and Merryairs (R. Walker) went easly over five furlongs In Imin 8 3-ssec, the last three In 41 3-ssec.

Game (R. M. Hastings) ran boldly over three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. He is very forward and will race at the Hastings meetings.

On the No. 1 grass, Halcyon (B. S. Dodds) and Royal Cabana (R. Grantham) ran five furlongs easily In Imin lOsec. So far. Halcyon has stood up to his trackwork very well.
