INCURSIONS INTO NORTH
Military View Expressed (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, August 16. United States military leaders. already given new authority to bomb more targets in the North, are chafing at the political restraints that restrict ground operations along Vietnam’s borders. United Press International reported. The marine commandant, General Wallace Greene, reporting on his sixth trip to Vietnam, made it clear that from a purely military standpoint he would like to conduct a more mobile war along the Demilitarised Zone, including incursions into North Vietnam itself. His sentiments were similar to those voiced by Admiral Ulysses Sharp, US. Commander-in-Chief in the Pacific, in previously secret testimony made public late yesterday by the Senate Military Preparedness Subcommittee.
