TROTTING Mountain Pride To Race At Addington

Mountain Pride, which was considered a doubtful starter at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s national meeting opening on Saturday, will take his place in the field for the Christchurch Handicap.

Mr L. Ashworth, who raced and trained Mountain Pride to win seven races and $5BBO last season, died a few days ago. Mr Ashworth’s family decided to carry on with his plans to race the horse at Addington Raceway. Mountain Pride is being prepared for the meeting at Mangere by J. E. Smith, who

was associated with the horse in many of his races. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club and the New Brighton Trotting Club, which are sponsoring a special aircraft to bring the Auckland horses to the meeting, had to make special arrangements for the seventh horse to be brought to Christchurch.

A special flight will bring six horses south tomorrow, and the seventh will be brought to Christchurch on Friday. It is not certain which horse will travel on Friday, but it is expected that all will be stabled at Derby Lodge, Addington. The New Brighton dub hopes that all visiting horses will stay for its meeting on September 2. Entries for this meeting will close tomorrow. Already Immortal, Prince Garry and Great Adios have been entered.

The connexions of some of the other Auckland horses are expected to take advantage of racing at the New Brighton meeting, where the top pacers will have the $2500 Johns Free-for-all, run over 10 furlongs. The top trotters will also race over 10 furlongs, but under ordinary handicap conditions, in the Spring Handicap, which will carry a stake of $2OOO. Most of the Auckland

horses will return north after the New Brighton meeting, but Great Adios and Viking Water will go to the Wellington Trotting Club’s meetings on September 9 and 12. Another top Auckland pacer, Tobias, will resume racing at the Hutt Park meeting and his meeting with Great Adios, Viking Water and leading South Island pacers should create great interest.
