FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —A depression over central New Zealand is moving eastwards; a ridge of high pressure extends on to the south of the South Island. Forecast:
Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds; mainly cloudy this morning; fine and sunny later, especially inland, with rising temperatures. Outlook: Fine.
Marlborough Sounds and Kaikoura Coast.— South to south-east winds, strong about Cook Strait, mainly moderate elsewhere, but decreasing during the day; showers early but fair periods increasing and only a few scattered showers in the afternoon; cold. Outlook: Fine.
Central Marlborough and Nelson.—Fresh easterly winds in exposed places, otherwise winds moderate and variable; fine but cool. Outlook: Fine. Buller and Westland.—Moderate south-easter-lies; fine; moderate afternoon temperatures. Outlook: Fine. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
