Four Men Injured (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, August 14. Four men were injured last night when two'ears of Negroes fired shotguns Into a group of white people standing outside a bar near Hammond, Louisiana, the police reported. Cars believed to have been used by the gunmen were later found abandoned. The Mayor of Hammond, Mr Sam Salk, issued an appeal “for all citizens, both coloured and white, to keep their heads.”

The incident came as a band of 137 Negro civil rights workers, marching more than 100 miles frm Bogalusa to the State capital of Baton Rouge to present a list of grievances, held a rally in Hammond. Officials said there did not appear to be any connexion between the shooting and the march.
