$lOO For Orphans
Hard work and imagination by pupils of Christchurch South Intermediate school combined to make the talent quest final in the school hall a success, both as a production and as a money raising venture.
Their efforts were tor the welfare and education of four orphaned children the school has adopted through the United Nations' Save the Children scheme. About $lOO was nised for this. One hundred and fifty pupils first entered the contest which was arranged by one of the classes. Fifteen items were presented in the final in a programme which included instrumental solos and duets, vocal groups, a comedy sketch and a magie act.
The magic act by L McDermid was judged the winning item, and a comedy sketch by A. Garret, S. Cribb, T. Cattermole and G. Robinson was awarded second prize. Third place went to a vocal group, C. Marshall, A. Clyde, G. Gardner, S. Thacker, with their version of The Seekers’ “A world of our own.”
