One hundred and fifty pupils first entered the contest which was arranged by one of the classes. Fifteen items were presented in the final in a programme which included instrumental solos and duets, vocal groups, a comedy sketch and a magie act.

The magic act by L McDermid was judged the winning item, and a comedy sketch by A. Garret, S. Cribb, T. Cattermole and G. Robinson was awarded second prize. Third place went to a vocal group, C. Marshall, A. Clyde, G. Gardner, S. Thacker, with their version of The Seekers’ “A world of our own.”
