Disputed Whistle
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The whistle that hushed Twickenham and sent the All Black, C. Brownlie, on that long walk into Rugby history, reposes not in Greymouth but in Wellington. It is in the possession of Mr S. Dean, manager of the 1924 “Invincibles” and is to be engraved and presented to the New Zealand Rugby Union. Mr Dean wa«. bewildered yesterday by a Press Association report which said that the famous whislte had turned up on the West Coast and was to used in a senior club game in Greymouth today. Mr Deans claims to have had the whistle since that fateful day when the Welsh referee, Mr A. E. Freethy, used it to order Brownlie off in the test against England.
