Reservists Proposal

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SEOUL, August 4. President Chung Hee Park yesterday proposed sending 300 South Korean reservists to South Vietnam this year to release American and South Korean troops in logistic jobs for combat duty, the “New York Times” news service reported. His proposal was reported to have been made to Mr Clark Clifford and General Maxwell Taylor, the United States Presidential envoys, as an alternative to sending more South Korean combat troops.

Forrestal Inquiry.—A formal inquiry into last Saturday’s fire aboard the American aircraft-carrier Forrestal in the Gulf of Tonkin, opened today at Subic Bay in the Philippines, it was announced in Saigon.—Saigon, August 4.
