New Free-Wheel Hub
AN Australian power lock free-wheeling hub, designed to isolate the front axles and differential of four-wheel-drive'vehicles when travelling on good roads has found ready markets locally and in Malaysia. The hubs reduce wear on front end assemblies; increase engine power and give improved petrol consumption. They are made by ShuteUpton Engineering Pty. Limited. They were developed initially to overcome the needless wear which occurs in the front transmission assembly of all four-wheel drive vehicles when used in two-wheel drive. Only the rear wheels provide traction for the -vehicle when using two wheel drive, yet more than 100 parts, including drive shaft, gears, pinions and bearings, continue to operate needlessly. With a free-wheeling hub mounted on each of the front axles and in the disengaged
position, the front wheels ar? disconnected from this transf mission, which remains at rest until four-wheel-drive is needed.
