UNMANNED ’COPTERS
Missions In Vietnam (N.Z. Presi Atm.—Copyright) BALTIMORE (Maryland), July 13. Unmanned helicopters are being used to carry out highrisk reconnaissance missions in Vietnam, reports the Baltimore “Evening Sun.” In a dispatch from Washington, the newspaper said the tiny helicopters, loaded with information-gathering equipment, had a flight time of about three hours and were controlled from a console mounted in a jeep. The story said United States officials hoped to reduce casualties which frequently resulted from the dangerous, but vital, reconnaissance missions in battle areas. The “Evening Sun" said the craft could carry television cameras to spot enemy troops and arms and had been used to drop supplies to troops surrounded by the Viet Cong.
