2½ Million Parts To Change In Machines
More than 2| million new parts, worth £250,000, will be used by one of the major business machine companies in conversion work for the change to decimal currency—the National Cash Register Company (N.Z.), Ltd.
The company’s task after D.C. Day will be mainly the full conversion of cash registers. Most of its make of accounting machines in use are already provided with a dual currency device which permits conversion in the owner’s premises.
In supplying the parts needed, the company’s factories overseas have cooperated to ensure continuity of the conversion programme, the company says. As conversion progresses, the firm’s fleet of 13 vehicles will begin the programme of transporting more than 20,000 machines to conversion centres in Christchurch, Wel-
lington and Auckland. More than 200 people will work in these centres converting machines. The company has published a 64-page booklet, “Dollars and Cents nd the New Zealand Retailer,” 45,000 copies of which have been distributed free to all retailers in the country.
