Riordan Cleared To Ride Again
"The Preaf” Special Service
HAMILTON.
The Matamata jockey, N. D. Riordan, has received a medical clearance to ride work. He expects to resume race riding at Matamata next Saturday week.
Among the nominations for the Matamata meeting is Peterman, the gelding which gave Riordan much success ss a three-year-old last season. A start for Peterman Is In some doubt at the moment, however.
Although he has missed three months’ riding because of a broken ankle, Riordan is well up on the jockey’s list with 21 winners. This total would have been swelled substantially if he had been able to ride in recent weeks, because two of his mounts were the smart two-year-old, Tino Arikl, a stablemate of Peterman, and the very Sromlslng young handicapper, escator. Rescator had done very well since winning at Tauranga just over a week ago. the trainer, N. J. Hayes, of Thames, said at Avondale on Saturday.
Hayes was represented at Avondale in the Oratia Handi-
cap by Treasure Castle, which had shown ability when trained at Te Rapa by J. R. Nash. He ran second to Head Off and earned himself a trip to Trentham this week with Rescator.
Rescator will be turned out for a spell after the Wellington winter meeting. Plans are to start him in the Whyte Handi* cap on the first day. If he has a hard race he may be reserved for the Winter Oats Handicap. Queen's Poet, which will accompany Head Off to Trentham this week, will be having her last races before her retirement to the stud. Both Queen's Poet and Head Off are trained at Te Awamutu by L. L. Collett. Queen’s Poet, a six-year-old mare by Poetical from Queen Opal, won the York and Members' Handicaps at Ellerslie among several good winter races and she was a close second in tha Whyte Handicap at Trentham.
