Bellnote and Watallan were two of the most impressive trialists at Wingatui yesterday when the final gallops for the second day of the South Canterbury meeting were held in steady rain. On the inside grass, where the trestles were out 25 ieet. Bellnote, ridden by her race rider P. J. Silver, appeared to be galloping more easily than her stablemate, Heffs (A. K. Robinson) at the end of five furlongs in Imln lOsec, the flrst two furlongs in 20sec. Beilnote, an acceptor for the Nursery Handicap, appears to have done well since running fourth in the two-year-old event at Ashburton last Saturday week.
Over the same ground Watallan (R. Korostchuk) was a length and a half clear of Castle Gregory (A. K. Robinson) with a similar margin to Gay Gabador (E. J. Didham) in Imin 11 3-ssec, the flrst two furlongs In 20 3-ssec.
Watallan revelled In the conditions. He could make a bold flrst showing in open company.
