POLITICAL MORALS

Support For Hillary

Support for Sir Edmund Hillary’s view that more morality in politics is needed has come from the Rev. W. S. Dawson, minister of the Durham Street Methodist Church.

In his church newsletter he says he is glad that “perhaps Sir Edmund Hillary opened his mouth a bit wide when he called for 'a little more hon-est-to-God morality In politics and government at all levels.’ ” “Few would accuse our Government of straight-out dishonesty, but in the hurlyburly of politics there is always (as in business) a temptation to conceal, prevaricate, use half-truths, and make promises which may not be able to be kept,” Mr Dawson says.

“It takes a man of Sir Edmund Hillary’s calibre to say roundly and openly that the price of leadership is integrity: and if this price is too high to pay, men had better stick to private life.”
