Monorail Transport
Sir, —Although New Zealand has a small population in comparison with other countries, I suggest use be made of the monorail system. If a double rail were erected in the centre of the main highway from Picton to Bluff, each pick-up point would be elevated, leaving road traffic to flow freely. (An annual prize could be given to the most attractive pick-up point; this could be a local community effort.) To finance such a project bonds could be issued—no interest, but with a certain amount of prizes drawn every month—similar to premium bonds that the Post Office issues in the United Kingdom. Anything worthwhile is usually costly, but benefits gained by the public would be well worth every cent.—Yours, etc. LIZA COTTERELL. Geraldine, June 29, 1967.
