MET—AND NODDED

fN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 2.

The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) and Sir Edmund Hillary met yesterday for the first time since Sir Edmund Hillary made his plea for a little more “honest - to • God morality” in politics and Government

They came together when Mr Holyoake addressed the annual meeting of the Volun-

teer Service Abroad, of which Sir Edmund Hillary is president The meeting was under way when Sir Edmund Hillary arrived. His flight from Auckland had been delayed. There was a brief nodded greeting, but no apparent informal exchanges between them.

In his address, the Prime Minister said Sir Edmund Hillary had “set a personal example of generous and un-

selfish service to underprivileged people in other countries.”

Later, in one of several departures from Ms supplied address notes, he compared the sacrifices made by politicians and V.S.A. members.

“I can only hope that you are not subject to the same scathing criticism and calumnies which are suffered by some politicians in the course of their work,” Mr Holyoake said.
