Posts Knocked Up And Down Hill
(N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 27. A youth who drove up the Rimutaka hill and knocked down road-side marker posts, returned and knocked down the posts again after a team of Ministry of Works men had replaced them, Mr
J. K. Patterson, S.M., was told at Lower Hutt to-
day. Trevor David Lindsey, a 20-year-old lineman, pleaded guilty to two charges of reckless driving, one charge of dangerous driving, two charges of wilful damage, and one charge of theft of a bag of carbonettes.
Senior-Sergeant B. J. Courtney said the accused had been seen driving his car up the Rimutaka hill, veering from side to side on May 12. At one point, the car knocked down 18 marker posts, valued at a total of £27.
The next day the damage was repaired. Lindsey was later seen driving his car down the hill and knocking down 11 of the replaced posts. The Magistrate fined Lindsey £25, on each of the reckless driving charges, £25 on the dangerous driving charge, £lO on one charge of wilful
damage and £5 on the charge of theft. The accused was convicted and discharged on the second wilful damage charge. The Magistrate ordered that Lindsey be disqualified from driving for three years on the two reckless and one dangerous driving charges. He also ordered £43 10s restitution for damage.
