Praise For Fairlie
(Special Crspdt. NZPA) LONDON.
B. E. Fairlie captured his share of praise in British newspapers yesterday after his five-set victory over the Russian, A. Metreveli, at Wimbledon.
Rex Bellamy, in “The Times,” said none of the first day matches surpassed Fairlie’s win. C. M. Jones, in the “Daily Mirror,” said Fairlie had sprung one of the biggest surprises of the day. and Alan Williams, in the “Daily Express,” said Fairlie’s come-back, after being two sets down “earned him a tremendous salute, particularly from the players’ gallery.”
