Indians Spun To Defeat

(N.Z.PA.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. India was spun to defeat by the offbreaks of F. Illingworth in the second test at lord’s on Monday.

England won by an Innings and 124 runs with 1} days to spare, to gain a winning 2-0 lead in the threematch series.

Illingworth finished with six for 29 as India, in its second innings, was all out for 110. After lunch, he claimed five wickets for 12 runs in 9.3 overs. He brought an abrupt finish to a game in which the inexperience of the young Indian side on a lively pitch had left it struggling from the start. Rain At Lunch India began its second innings needing 234 to avoid an innings defeat and at lunch was 75 for three. I It seemed it would not be disgraced, but a sharp shower during the interval dampened the wearing turf. Fifty-five minutes later the match was over. B. Kunderan. who opened the innings and stayed 2j hours for 47, was the only batsman to do himself justice. At times his strokes were a mixture of the sound and uncertain but he batted on and was finally eighth out. He hit six fours. A. Wadekar, who made 19, helped to add 52 for the second wicket but otherwise the Indian innings was a tragic succession of failures. India batted one short because of D. Sardesia’s broken finger, but England won with so much time to spare that his presence could not have made any difference.
