11 SHUNNED BY RUGBY

The list of former All Blacks who have played Rugby League and not been reinstated to Rugby and thus cannot attend the seven-ty-fifth anniversary celebrations of the New Zealand Rugby Union at Wellington in August now numbers 11. The players affected are G. D. M. Gilbert (1935), P. Henderson (1949-50), T. Katene (1955), G. Beatty (1950), J. K. McLean (1947), N. W. Black (1949), J. S. Haig (1946), T. W. Lynch (1951), D. H. Cameron (1960), V. M. Yates (1961-62) and E. H. Holder (1932-34). The chairman of the N.Z.R.U. council (Mr T. C. Morrison) said yesterday the council had been unani-

mous that former All Blacks not reinstated from Rugby League would not be invited. “The laws of my union preclude non - reinstated league players from playing Rugby and from holding any official office in a club or union. “The New Zealand Rugby Union regards the jubilee in August as one of the most important and official occasions in its history.” Former All Blacks who were reinstated to Rugby during the war-time amnesty included two of New Zealand’s greatest players, G. Nepia and A. E. Cooke, and H. M. Milliken. Another pre-war player, I). Solomon, was reinstated about five years ago.
