DIABETES SURVEY

Discussion In City

Members of the Rangiora diabetes survey committee — whose work has confirmed the view that there is one unknown diabetic for every known one—will this evening take part in a public panel discussion in Christchurch. The function, arranged by the Christchurch Diabetes Society, will be held in the Trinity Hall, Manchester street, and will be under the chairmanship of Dr. C. L. E. Sheppard. The Rangiora survey, covering 93.09 per cent of the town’s population, has also revealed a number of “borderline” cases, with blood sugar levels just under the diabetic level recognised by the World Health Organisation,, according to Mr E. Blain, president of the society. “Borderline” Condition The value of discovering persons in the "borderline” group, said Mr Blain, was that by remaining under regular medical supervision, they could be prevented from becoming full diabetics.
