Linwood Pressed By Marist
LINWOOD 11: R. Woolhouse a try; P. Jellyman a conversion and two penalty goals. MARIST 8: E. Hobbs, P. Walsh tries; I. Mene a conversion. The previously uninspiring Marist team played magnificently to almost topple the competition leader, Linwood. The game proved to be one of the most exciting of the season. Linwood was sorely tested in every position and was lucky to win. One Linwood player stood out —the second five-eighths, K. Gimblett. He showed great thrust and was the best back on the field. A strong, hardrunning player, Gimblett frequently found holes in the Marist defence. The Marist forwards rose to the occasion and played splendidly as a pack. The small No. 8, McKendry, repeatedly saved his side with some fine covering, while J. Burns stood out in the line-outs.
In the backs, the first fiveeighths, P. Robertson, kept control of the game with some intelligent kicking, while at fullback, B. McAlister was both courageous and competent. Referee: Mr J. R. Milnes.
