FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—The ridge of high pressure covering New Zealand joins the anti-cyclones in the north-east and south-west Tasman Sea. Forecast:

Canterbury and coastal Marlborough.—Light or moderate variable winds, mainly southerly; cloud rather persistent at night but skies more broken in the afternoon, especially inland; cool day temperatures.

Inland Marlborough, Nelson, Buller and Westland.—Light or moderate variable winds; areas of fog or low cloud with a few drizzle patches morning and night; otherwise variable skies with isolated showers; mild in the afternoon.
