CANCER STUDY

Bequest Of £13,000 fW.Z. Press Association? AUCKLAND, May 24. A £13,000 bequest by an Auckland woman would make further cancer research possible, said Dr. J. D. Sinclair, of the Medical Research Council.

Cancer causes 16 per cent of deaths in New Zealand. Of Miss H. A. M. Jordan's bequest £8770 will be given to Auckland University’s department of cell biology. “This grant will enable us to set up a unit to work on tumour viruses. The study of viruses in relation to cancer is an important part of cancer research,” said Professor R. E. F. Matthews, who is in charge of the unit.

The project will begin next year.
