£16,000 For Home For Aged
A house of 6500 sq. ft on a section of one rood 28.1 perches at 64 Dyers Pass road, Cashmere, was bought for £16,000 by the Christchurch Assembly Homes Trust at public auction yesterday. The property was offered on account of the estate of G. M. T. Perry by Binns, Barber, and Keenan, Ltd. The auctioneer was Mr E. G. Keenan. The centrally-heated house has 14 rooms, two kitchenettes, and four bathrooms. Outbuildings include three garages, a swimming pool and a dressing shed, a summerhouse and a shed. The Government valuation is £12,650. After the opening bid of
£12,000, eight bids of £5OO were taken.
The house, which was built about 34 years ago, was sold complete with carpets and curtains.
The Christchurch Assembly Homes Trust is controlled by the Open Brethren Assemblies.
After the sale, Mr M. L. Paynter, one of the trustees, said that it was intended to use the property as a home for aged people. It was planned to accommodate 10 to 15 persons.
“Except for some minor alterations the house will not be changed as we particularly wish to avoid' it looking like an institution,” said Mr Paynter.
