CUT IN KIWI GRANT
Council Helps Board
A less-than-expected grant from Golden Kiwi lottery funds put the Governors Bay Domain Board in an awkward position on improvements the board proposes to make to the Allandale hall. Messrs V. B. Jagger and E. Turner, for the board, told the Mount Herbert County Council on Friday that the board had been led to expect a lottery grant of £550, but £325 only was available, and it had to be uplifted within six months.
On the money residents had raised, and a tender price of £1617, this left £147 to find, and a small committee could not raise that amount in six months. They asked the council to give the board £147.
The council made a grant of £l5O from its land subdivision account, which is about £lOOO in credit. Cr. E. R. Radcliffe said that there was no conflict with the Governors Bay community centre, as Governors Bay residents would not appreci[ate dances there.
