Press Profit £62,903

The net profit of the Christchurch Press Company, Ltd., fell £17,084, or 21.4 per cent, to £62,903 in the year to March 31.

A steady dividend of 10 per cent has been recommended, which will again require £35,000. This is covered 1.8 times by profit. The gross trading revenue showed an increase but this was more than offset by the rise in labour costs, says the directors’ report. The earning rate on average shareholders’ funds is down from 14.1 to 10.4 per cent while the rate on capital is down from 22.8 to 18.0 per cent.

Shareholders’ funds are £28,461 higher at £619,234 and include capital steady at £350,000.
