GUARANTEE ON POWER
Connexion Costly
In 1960, Mrs C. L. Ridgen, of Glandovey road, had a house at Hororata connected to the power supply, and signed a guarantee to pay £52 a year for the service. In a letter to the Central Canterbury Electric Power Board yesterday, Mrs Ridgen asked that the guarantee be cancelled. Circumstances had prevented her from using the Hororata house much, and she had paid hundreds of pounds on the guarantee, and only a few shilling on power. “I can’t see any possibility of upsetting the guarantee,” said the chairman (Mr W. A. Newton). ”It would upset the whole reason for requiring guarantees, which are to safeguard the board's capital charges on lines that would otherwise be uneconomic.”
The letter was received after the board had been told that the guarantee had seven years and a half to run.
