Savings In Decimals

Firms using large numbers of 4d stamps for their mail will make substantial savings when the new decimal currency postage rate is introduced in July. Sortie firms would save the equivalent of £5O a year or even more, the deputy chief postmaster (Mr M. Johnston) said yesterday. - The 3c stamp, which will become the normal rate instead of 4d for inland sealed mail, will give a saving of .4d a letter. There will also be a saving on the inland air-mail rate which will be 4c instead of sd. V

The Post Office will make slight gains on existing rates for other denominations, notably those less than 4d. However, the number of stamps sold between ]d and 2d is considerably less than for other stamps. A 2fc will replace the current 3d stamp for unsealed mail. No-one will benefit from this

Mr C. McLean is due at Wellington today on the Southern Cross to take up his appointment as First Secretary (Commercial) to the British High Commission. —(PA.)
