Boxing Tests With Aust.
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. A team of Australian amateur boxers will compete in three tournaments in New Zealand in July.
The New Zealand Boxing Council chairman (Mr H. N. Hunt) said yesterday that negotiations for the visit of a full team of boxers were well in hand. The Australian Amateur Boxing Association had been asked to name its team and Mr Hunt said that the Australians had been told that the council would accept a full team or no fewer than eight fighters. The Australians will meet a South Island team at Invercargill, a North Island team at Auckland and will fight New Zealand’s best in a test series at Wellington. The test series will probably be used as a selection guide for boxing nominations for next year’s Olympic Games. The New Zealand council will meet all the Internal travel and accommodation costs of the Australian team and the Australians will pay their own travelling expenses to New Zealand.
Two years ago, a team of Australian amateurs were to
have visited New Zealand but last minute financial troubles stopped the team coming.
