Metal Trade Award

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 13. Wage rises of 2|d to 5Jd an hour are granted to motor assembly metal trades workers in an award released today by the Arbitration Court. Qualified fitters and turners will now receive 9s OJdd an hour. The new award also creates two new categories for toolmakers, and fitters and turners, giving those with an advanced trade certificate a 4d an hour skill margin. The toolmakers’ top rate is the highest in the award, at 9s lid.

Youths under 21 in the award get increases of 9s 7d to 14s lOd a week. A new time-and-a-half rate is granted to workers welding in confined spaces. The award was agreed to in conciliation, and is retrospective to March 6.
