SHEARS WON BY CUTTER

A pair of golden shears, mounted on a wooden stand, and a personal miniature pair, were presented on Wednesday night to Mr J. W. Cleland, a cutter with a clothing manufacturing firm. , Mr Cleland, Who has recently finished his apprenticeship, was awarded the shears, known as the Clothing Institute Award, for his gaining the highest marks in the examinations in clothing conducted by the New Zealand Trades Certification Board. The award is made annually and this is the first time it has been won by a South Island student. Mr Cleland also won a 14 day all expenses paid trip to Australia where he will visit clothing factories and trade exhibitions.
