TOUR BY U.K. MEN

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) STEVENAGE (England). An English men’s table tennis team will tour New Zealand during July and August this year. The team will be D. Neale and S. Gibbs, the latter replacing I. Harrison who is not available. Neale, aged 22, is No. 2 member of the English team competing at the world championship in Stockholm, and winner of the English closed championship in 1966. He plays for Yorkshire and was winner of the premier division in the 1966-67 county championships. He has beaten all the top European players, including Scholer (West Germany), Johansson (Sweden) and Giurgiuca (Rumania). He is an all-out attacker and is especially strong on the forehand. Gibbs, aged 20, is No. 5 in the English team at Stockholm. He was runner-up in the English closed tournament in 1966, and has had spectacular wins, including one over Johnnson, the present European champion. From East Ham, Essex, he is a spectacular player who hits many shots which look impossible to counter. He hits well even when away from the table. The te:>in will arrive in New Zealand on July 24 and will play against the provincial centres and New Zealand in international contests, and also compete in the national open championships at Wanganui in August.
