Final Orders May Run In Caulfield Cup

Final Orders may do his spring racing in Australia with the Caulfield Cup as his main mission.

The Woodville trainer, S. A. Brown, feels that Final Orders, with his ability to muster early speed, would be well suited by the demands of a Caulfield Cup.

Twelve years ago he took Historic Era to Australia for the Caulfield Cup. One of the light-weights in the field, Historic Era finished third to two notable New Zealand-breds, Rising Fast and Ray Ribbon. Final Orders has finished racing for the season. His run of successes was halted in the Tasman Handicap at Riccarton on Wednesday, but he lost little stature through his failure to give the Warstep Stakes winner Millie Small 151 b over a mile.

Final Orders hung badly during the race, and was shin-sore later. Final Orders will return north on Saturday with his stablemates, Royal Chase, Summer Dale, and Dry Time, which have engagements on the final day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting. Min Flicka, another member of Brown’s team, was taken north on Wednesday

evening. She was twice second on her Riccarton camcampaign. Naw Rider W. D. Skelton will be riding at the Manawatu meeting on Saturday and B. J. Anderton will replace him as Royal Chase’s rider. Royal Chase is top weight In the Waltham Handicap, but a greater handicap could be the outside barrier position. G. W. Mein has been engaged for Summer Dale, which was badly checked in the Champagne Stakes on Monday. Summer Dale was not asked for one of her best gallops when she was tried with Wenew over half a mile on the trial grass at Riccarton yesterday Summer Dale (Mein) won the gallop by a length in 52 2-ssec The rest of the galloping was done on the plough. One of the fastest sprints was recorded by Monograph (B J. Anderton), which ran three furlongs in 36 4-ssec. He is a light-weight In the Waltham Handicap tomorrow.
