‘Negative Meeting’

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. A meeting of the New Zealand Racing Conference—-“A negative meeting” in the opinion of the President, Mr R. A. Whyte —had much discussion and considered proposals and alternatives on voting strength much of yesterday morning. Two opposing resolutions failed by one vote to get the necessary two-thirds majority. A motion from Manawatu

sought to give all the clubs a vote at the conference. But basing their votes on the number of racing days each hold, this motion would have given district clubs the majority of the vote. An amendment would have given district clubs 61 votes (one each) and 61 votes to the 10 metropolitan clubs which at present can control the voting at the conference. The meeting did, however, pass a resolution changing the representation on district committees to take in all clubs, including hunt clubs licensed to use the totalisator.

The conference approved increases in losing riding fees by £1 for flat races and £1 10s for jumping races.
