Hillis Jumpers Picked

“The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN. Members of W. J. Hillis’s team dominate the two steeplechase races at the Birchwood Hunt’s annual meeting at Riverton today. Bush Creek, the early favourite for the Great Western, and one of the star jumpers over the Riverton country last Easter, will be expected to win the Gardner Memorial SteepleHe will be attempting to win his fourth steeplechase from his last five starts. Bush Creek will be bracketed with Arabian Light, a competent hurdler and a newcomer to steeplechasdng.

The strongest opposition for Mr W. E. Hazlett’s bracket may come from Kumai, a stayer of

high class under winter conditions and a good winner over hurdles. Kumai will have an important winter campaign and the Birchwood and Riverton meetings should give a lead to his chances. Collide, Mosque, and Naratam will be a formidable bracket from Hillis’s team in the J. S. Hazlett Memorial Hunt Steeplechase for amateur horsemen. Collide and Naratam have won over country and Mosque, a brother to Eiffel Tower, proved a smart hurdler at Riccarton last August. Of the others, Joilly Fox may have most in his favour as he is a dashing jumper. The T.A.B. double will be on the President’s Handicap and the Otautau Hack Handicap, for which Segundo and Spanish Fox may be the favourites.
