STRAIT SWIM

Anti-Shark Precautions (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 17. The Wellington surfer, R. Gough, will have a tight antishark screen round him when he attempts to swim Cook Strait

If conditions are suitable Gough may make the attempt on Sunday, surrounded by a group of skin-divers armed with explosive-headed spear guns.

The swim organiser, Mr W. F. Anderson, said extra precautions had to be taken because of last week’s shark attack in Dunedin. He said Gough would always have a surf board rider on either side and at least two divers in the water. Monday. Tuesday, and Wednesday are alternatives if adverse weather and tide conditions prevent the swim being made on Sunday.
