FENDALTON SEAT
Four For National I A late entrant for selection las the National Party candidate for the Fendalton byelection was Mr T. D. Flint, whose name had not been mentioned in earlier speculation. Mr Flint stood for National in Christchurch Central in 1960 and was the candidate for Lyttelton in 1963. Nominations closed yesterday, and although no announcement was made by the party it is expected that four candidates will face the electorate selection committee on Tuesday evening. They will be Mrs H. L. Garrett, Messrs E. S. F. Holland and Flint, and Dr. J. R. Dawson.
Mrs Garrett stood for Sydenham at the last election, and Dr. Dawson was the National candidate in Avon. Mr Holland has not stood for Parliament before, but has given long service to the party and is a former deputychairman of the CanterburyWestland division. He is a son of a former Prime Minister, the late Sir Sidney Holland. Mr Flint is a member of the Christchurch Drainage Board. He was on the City Council up to the last municipal elections and was chairman of the traffic committee, but elected to leave the Citizens’ Association and stand as an independent.
