Bob’s Secret Could Test Milers Today

Bob’s Secret is expected to be one of the strongest prospects from Southland stables at Oamaru today, when the Oamaru Jockey Club will hold the races postponed on Saturday.

The rain which forced the postponement cleared yesterday. There was sunshine and good drying and the track is expected to be firm and fast today.

The starting times have been put back half an hour and the first race will start at noon. Bob’s Secret will be trying for his fifth win for the season and his second on end in the Windsor Handicap, an event for hack milers. Bob’s Secret, a member of D. V. and R. F. Pankhurst’s Invercargill stable, gained

open-class rating with a narrow but impressive win against the hack milers at Wingatui on February 25. Today Bob’s Secret will be giving weight to seven rivals. The strongest of those could be Expel and Hayman. * Expel ran Balmaris to a nose in the Pareora Handicap at the CJ.C. summer meeting the last time he raced. Hayman won at a middle distance at Motukarara on March 4.

R. Preece, who prepares Expel at Riccarton will also saddle Tumble, the likely favourite for the Papakaio Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double. The strongest opposition to Tumble could be by the Gore-trained Golden Boa and Early Dawn, from Riccarton. Ibn and Newbrook should give Riccarton stables strong representation in the Stewards’ Handicap, second leg of the main double. But if the Mosgiel-trained Middy runs up to his best form they will probably be hard-pressed to win.

There will be a concession double on the Trial Stakes and Autumn High-weight. Ngatua will probably be a firm favourite for the first leg. The best second-leg chances are expected to be Glocca Morra, Standout and Stageland. The club will apply to race on June 10 to replace the second day of the meeting,

which has been abandoned. As the club already holds its winter meeting on June 17 there will be a two-day winter meeting.
