Trentham Inquiries

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. An inquiry was held at Trentham on Saturday into Marine’s showing in the Ngaio Highweight. After making a strong move on the turn he was clear on the outside in the straight, but although ridden out he failed to run on.

His rider, H. N. Rauhihi, said that Marine handled the ground satisfactorily and was travelling well on the turn but was not capable of maintaining his run.

Ima Martian (J. T. Anderson) was handily placed turning into the straight in the Plunket Nursery Handicap but began to race erratically when pressure was applied.

Anderson said he had had to force the horse a Little more than he had wanted early in the race, and he considered the colt was not suited by the soft ground.

D. G. Foley, the rider of Illumined in the Tinakori Handicap at Trentham, was fined £lO for changing his boots without the permission of the stewards after weighing out.

Udare (G. L. WUHetts) finished a distant last in the Chalmers Handicap. Willetts said the horse was unable to handle the heavy going. Loofah (W. D. Skelton) and Tara’s Pride (G. F. Hughes) were unable to run on and finished near the rear in the Thompson Handicap. Both riders said that their mounts were unable to handle the ground and were beaten at least three furlongs from the finish.
