AUCKLAND, March 10.

With 1000 dollars obtained from an Australian savings bank passbook he stole, Anthony John Hunun, aged 19, made preliminary arrangements through a sharebroker to acquire a new car from Australia on a noremittance licence, the Magistrate’s Court was told today.

Sergeant C. H. Shearwood told Mr W. J. Meade, S.M., that Humm, a plasterer, had stolen the book issued by a bank in Warialda, Australia. The book belonged to a man staying at the same Invercargill hotel as Humm. The 1000 dollars was transferred into a cheque account in New Zealand currency.

With the cheque book, Humm then committed. 21 of the offences for which he was now charged.

He admitted 12 charges of forgery, four of false pretences, one of theft, one of attempted false pretences, two of obtaining credit by false pretences, and a breach of probation. On a further charge of obtaining credit by fraud Humm entered no plea. He was convicted on the 21 charges to which he pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody until March 17 for sentence.
