WAITANGI, March 10. For nearly everyone connected with the ViceRegal visit to the Chatham Islands it has been , a return engagement. The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) and Lady Fergusson first visited the Chathams in 1963. He is the first Gov-ernor-General to have visited the Chathams more than once. As member of Parliament for the area, the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) has visited the islands ' frequently. For the Commissioner of Police (Mr C. L. Spencer) and Mrs Spencer, this ' two-day trip has been a
visit to a former home. They lived-here for five years when Mr Spencer was stationed on the island as a constable. Two other members of the party who have been here previously are Mr R. H. Orr, of the Seismological Observatory, and a television cameraman, Mr J. Wright, who filmed the Governor-General’s previous visit. The party arrived from Auckland this afternoon by R.N.Z.A.F. Sunderland. Today’s programme includes ’ a visit to a crayfishpacking factory and a dance. The party will return to Auckland tomorrow.
