Premier S.I. Dahlia Award Won By Ashburton Grower

For the second year in succession Mr G. S. Gunn, of Ashburton, gained the champion of champions award for the premier bloom in the South Island dahlia show in Ashburton. Mr Gunn’s champion bloom was a white medium cactus, Tutu. It was the same class of bloom with which he took the championship in last year’s South Island show in Greymouth. Mr Gunn also gained two other premier awards. He is employed on the Ashburton Borough Council parks and reserves staff.

The exhibition was one of the largest flower shows held in Ashburton. It opened on Thursday and ended yesterday. Exhibitors in many centres throughout the South Island entered blooms in the show. The president of the Dahlia Society of New Zealand (Mr W. A. Pollard) said the standard was particularly high.

Mr O. W. B. Anderson (Hamilton) judged the open dahlia section and Mr S. L. Holmes (Christchurch) judged the amateur and novice sections. Results:—
