Dashing Trial By Newbrook

Newbrook might be the one to take the value out of recent race form in the Stewards’ Handicap at Oamaru tomorrow.

He sprinted with race-winning dash on the trial grass Riccarton, recording 47 4-ssec for his half-mile.

J. S. Shaw’s solid seven-year-old should be a stone better for his race at the Banks Peninsula meeting, and he may be a force in his two starts at the Oamaru meeting. He will run in the high-weight on the second day of the meeting, when B. Collins will have the mount.

A. J. Stokes will ride him in his first-day engagement. Running Scared, the logical favourite for the Redcastle Hack Handicap at Oamaru on the strength of an easy win at Motukarara, firmed in favour with a fast-run mile yesterday. Ridden by G. Gullery, he beat Even Chance (M. King) by two lengths, and recorded imin 44 3- the last half-mile in 49 4-

Standout (Collins) led Retinue (Cowles) by half a length ending a mile in Imin 45 3-ssec, the last half in 50sec.

Golden Vanity (Mein) showed she was ready for another solid run at Oamaru w’hen she recorded Imin 44 l-ssec for a mile and 50 2-ssec for the last half.

She has earned a win with some sound placed rune lately. The stablemates, Sleeky Fox

(Jackson) and Sir Ltmond (Tucker), recorded 50 2-ssec for the last four of seven furlongs. We’ll Find Out (L. Jackson) and Master Sheeny (Tucker) were given a similar task, and dashed in from the half-mile in 50 4-ssec.

Royal Encounter, a disappointment at Motukarara, sprinted smartly to beat Anasi w a and Allegretto, other members of P. H. Jones’s team.

Royal Encounter recorded 48 1- and beat Anasiwa by a length, but Anasiwa reduced the chestnut’s lead in the last furlong. Tumble, the likely favourite for the Papakaio Handicap at Oamaru, worked away from the seven furlongs, and ran the last half-mile with Expel in 49 2-

Tumble appears to be thriving, but he might find Early Dawn a strong rival at Oamaru.

Early Dawn showed his fitness by running a mile with General Gilbert in Imin 42 3-ssec yesterday.

The stablemates recorded 50 l-ssec for the last half-mile. Hamadan (Low) led Status Symbol (Reuben) by two lengths ending seven furlongs in imin 29 4-ssec, the last half-mile in 51sec.

Ibn shaped as if he would be one of the improvers in the Stewards’ Handicap at Oamaru when he sprinted half a mile keenly in 50 4-ssec. He was a fair fifth at Motukarara last week.
