Tumble-Middy For Oamaru Double

Tumble and Middy are selected to win the Oamaru Jockey Club’s T.A.B. double tomorrow.

Tumble is the logical favourite for the Papakaio Handicap after an easy win over a mile and a quarter at the Banks Peninsula meeting last Saturday.

Tumble won the Motukarara race in style by three lengths after leading for the last five furlongs. His ability to run freely in the lead coifid stand to him on the Oamaru course, which suits a strong frontrunner.

Golden Boa, from Gore, Early Dawn and Golden Vanity, from Riccarton, and the Wingatui light-weight, Balmaris, are all in or close to form, and should offer Tumble fairly strong opposition. Early Dawn, after being away from racing since New Year, resumed with a promising run against the sprinters at the Banks Peninsula meeting. His final gallop at Riccarton yesterday was also encouraging.

Middy, top-weight in the Stewards’ Handicap, started a spectacular autumn programme with a win in this race last year. After two brilliant wins later in stronger fields at Riccarton he finished his three-year-old racing with high ranking amongst the sprinters.

Mr G. B. Thomson's nuggety entire has not come right back to last year’s autumn form but in a field weak even by provincial standards he should come out on top.

The Missionary and San Saba were scratched yesterday from the Autumn High-weight Handicap. This race is the second leg of the on-course

concession double. The first leg of this double is the Trial Stakes, in which Motukarara form should be the most valuable, being represented by the place-getters, Golden Promise, Water Deer, and the promising two-year-old Ngatu. Fields, with form for the T.A.B. double races, are: 2 p.m.— PAPAKAIO HANDICAP, £600: Um.

3.30 p.m.— STEWARDS* HANDICAP, £425: 7f.
