MATTHINA DAM
Full Power Next Month (N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, March 9. The 72,000-kilowatt Matahina hydro-electric dam should be producing to its full capacity for the first time next month Mr J. J. Chesterman, the project engineer, said today. A second 36,000-kllowatt generator, which has not yet been used, should be commissioned after some back-filling and grouting in the dam af’er investigation of a movement in the dam is completed. No power has been produced by the station since early February when the movement was detected.
Mr Chesterman said the small settlement had been caused by the material In the dam moving more than the solid rock abutment to which it joined. The movement was not unexpected and had cured itself.
